It's getting cold - sort of. the water is not more than mid-'50s. It's time to pack on 15 pounds so I can comfortably make it through the cold season. A surplus in calories and higher than-normal carb intake gets me there in a month. In-N-Out for starters. Two cheeseburgers and fries.
Off to Olompali state historic park. This used to be a ranch and in the '60 the place became a hangout for The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. It then became a hippie commune and in the '70s it became a state park.
Saltbox building where a blacksmith once lived.
Two other historic structures
Wild turkeys were aimlessly looking for ovens!
I walked the trail that meanders through the compound. It's a typical coastal landscape with many oak trees.
I had to walk off the fries at least partially so I drove up to the parking near the summit of Mount Tamalpais. You can see the observation tower at the peak from as far away as San Francisco.
A carb-fueled, swift 4-minute run got me to the summit. The trail does not go straight from the parking lot to the summit but it zig-zags around half of the mountain.
View of the Bay Area from the summit. You can see Tiburon and Angel Island, Mill Valley, and Sausalito. Also Alcatraz Island, Treasure Island, the East Bay, and SF. The tallest building you can see in the SF skyline is the Sales Force Tower. A hideous thing. I couldn't tell the Moon was partially in the shot when I took the picture.
I then took the scenic highway to Hwy1 and to Stinson Beach.
I felt a bit peckish and got myself a split hotdog for good measure. I ate it while sitting next to the outdoor heater because it was getting nippy, Skippy.
The sunset at Stinson Beach was quite nice. To the right you can see a little bit of Bolinas.
