3.5 Quarts Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w40, 1 qt Rotella 15w40 conventional, 0.5 qt 10w40 Castrol High Mileage. This is for a MY 1992 turbo Subaru w/ 165k on the ticker.

I plan on running a full dose of Castrol High Mileage for 3k before testing the cocktail.

Reasoning for the ingredients. From experience, M1 is a great oil when new, but shears very quickly. My hope is that the Rotella will stabilize or thicken it a bit so it does not shear down so much. The 1/2 qt of high mileage is to maintain whatever it is that it does. I had a similar car that I put the high mileage in with noticable results.

If M1 sheers very quickly, then don't buy any. Go to something else. Perhaps Amsoil PAO. Don't think half quart HM will do any significant HM stuff. There are HM synthetics out there (Mobil and Maxlife). Might do well to go complete fill of the Rotella.

In my experience Mobil 1's 40wts don't shear down like their 30wts or their 0W40, but I'm not running used oil analysis to verify this.

Mobil 1 10W40 is 14.71cst @ 100F
Rotella 15W40 is 15cst @ 100F, not much thicker

What does Castrol High Mileage do that other oils don't?

I'd use a 5qt jug of Mobil 1 10W40 or 1 gallon of Rotella syn 5W40 + 1qt of Mobil 1 5W40 or 10W40.
Both should cost less than $25 at Walmart.
