This is definitely a WOW video- Teen Pushes Bear Off Backyard Wall While Defending Family Dogs

The bear must have some stories after that one. "You should have seen her, at least 13 feet tall with these three huge snarling beasts around her. I put up a valient defense but she played dirty and tripped me right off that wall. Before I knew it she was gone. At least I saved the kids."

Adrenaline can do some crazy stuff with your body. I was in shop at age 19. 1966 Chevelle, with a 396, fell off the jack stands on to a guy. I ran over and picked up the entire front end by myself. I pretty much remember my arms shaking, and veins sticking out about ready to burst.

No way on any other day, I could have done that. Adrenaline rush.

That's an American black bear. Generally not a big deal. If the dogs hadn't gotten that close to the bear, the bear and the cubs probably would have just taken off from the barking. As it was, the adult female bear was already retreating by the time this woman got to the bear.

The American black bear isn't terribly aggressive. Your situation was frankly more dangerous than that bear.

I've confronted black bears before and it wasn't adrenaline but rather just cool calculation. Although there was this one time the bear just didn't want to go anywhere once it had food, and noises didn't cause it to retreat. My regret was that I didn't just throw stuff (I had a case of water which would have worked) at the bear until it left. But it was more scared of the park ranger who showed up and yelled at it. Must have respected the uniform.

At least in national parks, repeat offenders know what the park rangers have, which include 12 gauge rubber slugs and paintballs. Those things must hurt like crazy.

Some of the comments are just a bit much... I'd never consider that 'stupid' and would venture to say some on this forum don't have half the sack that person does. Imagine some of you would be far more aggressive if that bear was scratching your fresh ceramic infused paint job or was attacking your oil stash!

These types of situations all boil down to a risk vs. reward decision, and if it was all worth it... Regardless of the outcome. This wasn't it. She is lucky it all went her way. If that bear had connected taking a swipe at her, that would have been it.

At worst she would be dead. At best she would most likely be disfigured for life. And for what? That bear had cubs, which made the whole thing even more dangerous. There are things that are worth staking your life on. Dogs and paint jobs are not it.

Speaking of paint jobs, there was a mom black-bear and two cubs hanging around my place and raiding the the neighbours crab apple tree. I had my beater Taurus parked in the driveway with a trunk containing freshly picked full size apples from another neighbour’s tree. There is dirt from their paws and two nice bear claw scratches on the bumber.
