Thinking of trading in the truck for a Tahoe...crazy?

Because:

GM fixed the manufacturing problems with the 6.2L in June 2024. OP is talking about a new Suburban which wouldn't have the problem.

No towing or off-roading, this is a job for a minivan. Also easier to ‘handle’ the short trips to work.

How many persons will be in the vehicle at max capacity? Do you have children who would sit in third row while your in laws are in the second row? If so, you might consider a Suburban or Yukon XL for more room. I agree that a light duty trailer to accompany the SUV would fit all your needs.
6, maybe 7 but 4 could be teenagers. 13 & 16 yr old girls with their friends.

The 5.3L makes 355 HP and 383 PF torque - towing 5K is practical with these - even though it’s rated a fair amount higher … I have both the 6 speed and 10 speed - the extra gears brings a smooth delivery of power …
The 6.2L is only going to add fuel costs …

The third row in the Tahoe is horrible and using it makes rear cargo space almost nonexistent. The Traverse is better in this regard. I’d bump up to the Suburban if you plan on putting anyone older than five years old in the third row. And I’d move over to a minivan if you don’t care what people think. As it is actually a better people hauler, drives better and is more economical.

I get it but AWD isn't useful and I value the ground clearance. I tried to convince the wife to get a minivan before the Tiguan and you can see how that went.
That is why I said "if only pavement." They are absolutely useless off the pavement, no questions about that. I mostly ditched my 2015 Sienna bcs. that.
