Buddy of mine just bought a Mazda 2 and he loves it.

I've driven in NYC traffic, lived in Baltimore/DC for a year, Atlanta for 5 & Chicago for 8. All while only driving manual transmissions. You'll be fine in traffic and the other 95% of the time (out of Manhattan gridlock) you'll enjoy the car much more.

I say go for it. Don't give up on the car you want just because of a tiny fraction of the time it could be a little less convenient.

I finally saw one of these the other day. It looks like a fun little car. I'm just surprised you'd trade in a perfectly good Corolla. You're better off selling it privately -- those cars are in serious demand and you could sell it quickly and for far more money.

Her integra trans was not broken. I didnt say that the shifter handle didnt move smooth and endlessly. But the clutch action, clutch point (verified the point was the same on other integras) and gearing/torque profile of the engine was not conducive to traffic.

It was OK for shifting fast in other conditions, and everything was light and smooth, but that does not make it good for driving in traffic.


Weird, my Integra GS-R had one of the best transmissions ever. I miss rowing the gears in that, especially with the short shifter. I've driven tons of manuals since and nothing has come close: STI, S2000, my current S4, Mazdaspeed3, RX-8, Mustang GT, G35, Legacy GT.
