I spend a few minutes a day reading posts here, and I've learned a few interesting things from you all...
1) My 3K oil/filter changes are a good thing, not "over-doing it" like some of my friends say...
2) Valvoline Dino oils in my vehicles ARE a good choice (see 3K oil changes) as opposed to trying more expensive Synthetics...
3) Pennzoil does NOT add wax to their oils (myth)
4) I can find better things to worry/obsess about than my oil/filter selection...in the words of 1 member here, "if it's working for you, why change it?"
and, finally...
5) More expensive does not necessarily equate to better oil!!!
Thanks, everyone. I'm glad I hooked up with this forum!

There is support here for short OICs when you are totally urban stop and go, short mile commutes , extremes in temp and cars with coolant leaks or showing unusual UOA metals.\

I'd say dino at 5K on up to manufacturers spec is a more supported view.

Valvoline All Climate dino may be one of the few name brand SM dinos that is limited by its add back to 3K OCI.

I'll add what I've learned from Tom and Ray, the Tappet Brothers....

BTW, they have degrees from MIT

Tom and Ray declare that as long as you change the oil regularly (3k for older, 5k for newer) and use ISLAC oil at the right viscosity, then it does not matter what brand or whether it's synthetic.

I kinda trust them.

Why can't an older car go more than 3K on oil? And why would the OLM on newer cars be so wrong when they don't signal a change until around 7-8K miles?

You sure are not reading the same forums I am!! I get exactly the opposite out of this place...

Wow if BITOG ever starts a topic hall of fame this one deserves a nomination. I agree with everything you said. BITOG members have saved me money by letting everyone in on good deals. I'm fascinated by the chemistry of motor oil and look forward to the insights shared by Molakule, Terry, bruce381 to name a few.I tune in daily to watch the latest new member try to butt heads with some of the heavyweights.Cheap entertainment.

I think one of them barely graduated with a humanities degree....

You just want to make sure he's not called "My Doctor".
