I will listen for it in the future and will comment to others, "Oh, did you hear it!

That's the Wilhelm scream." They'll look at me ..always being amazed at my endless pouring forth of interesting, but mostly useless, information and roll their eyes.

I think I'll save this one for when my youngest daughter has one of her friends over and they're watching television. It really REALLY annoys the heck out of her. Her friends are always polite since they haven't developed the contempt that one can for someone who tortures you with their bad habits on an ongoing basis.

Thanks, mori!!

That scream has been around since 1951, but you are wondering?

The Wilhelm scream is an insider gag. Sound designer Ben Burrt (Star Wars) is credited with using this old recording on purpose in many movies, for example in the SW trilogy and the Indy movies. Other sound designers followed and began using the Wilhelm scream. Movie buff everywhere are well aware whenever they hear a "Wilhelm."

As I said in another thread, discussing movies is more fun with those who got a clue or two. Buster calls us "elitists," and Gary lauds us of "mastery." Master elitists. Me likey!

Lack of originality in Hollywood? Who knew?
