The Size Of Touchscreens Is Getting Ridiculous!

The 2022 Tundra boasts an optional 14" touchscreen; the 2022 Silverado is 13+ inches, if memory serves.

When I was a child, I watched TV on a 13" screen.

The size of some touchscreens is getting ridiculous, and now automakers are making them larger and larger so as to hold bragging rights as to whose touchscreen is largest.

What's my issue? The massive touchscreens are a HUGE distraction, especially at night. And while I seldom pay attention to what others do/buy, the thought of having a distracted driver next to, or behind me, isn't a pleasant thought.

Am I the only person with this concern?

After a few weeks the newness wears off and you only pay attention to them when you need to change something. Same as looking down to push the A/C knob in your 1976 Chrysler Cordoba.

I'm waiting for the virtual windscreen, essentially a big-acreen TV that allows the driver to perceive reality augmented and vibrant in ways natural vision can't provide. Hopefully I will be dead by then.

I'd be much more concerned about the distracted driver coming in the opposing direction wondering into my lane and causing a head on collision. And those cross overs can happen too quick for you to safely react to it.

Just another reason why I sign off with what I sign off with.

This is on a forum that have those that complain about the (very convenient) push button start being "too much tech". OR-the electronic parking brake being evil. I'm sure the touchscreens have a dim or even a "go-dark" mode for night driving.

Next silly thing please.....

I'm with you on this... Saw a woman in her Tesla swerving all over the road today. When she came to a stop at the red light, I noticed she was fiddling with the giant screen AND her Cell Phone which she has somehow attached to the screen. Nice. Whatever just happened to just "driving"??

No, you're not. It's bad enough we have idiots texting while they're driving. Now this. I'm surprised the DOT allows this nonsense. Every year there appears to be something new on the market, that will succeed in keeping people looking at everything, except where they are going. And if that isn't bad enough, we diminish they're driving skills with features like automatic parallel parking, and lane departure prevention.

What's next, a dispenser on the dash to administer Valium and Ambien?

Or else artificial vision like the newer aircraft have. Then they can drive faster in fog and blizzards.

No, you're not alone in this concern.

A few people I know have Teslas with big screens, and while as a passenger I enjoy watching the screen for its entertainment value, as the driver I find the large screens both annoying and distracting.

I wonder if the screens would cause accidents from the distraction and with some wire splicing could some kind of videos be run through them? Watching porn on a long commute would be the cats meow. [sarcasm]

Simple coding, and you can watch whatever.
My daily driver is BMW without iDrive. Purposely bought used one without screen. Stick, regular knobs. Even customized audio I spent two weeks installing has regular single din unit bcs. world is much better just rowing gears and enjoying drive.

What is there to be distracted by? Changing a song or turning on the butt warmer?

Anything "distracting" about these screens pales in comparison to grabbing my 250 disc wallet from the back seat and trying to find the right Ministry album.

It's not like these things are playing YouTube while driving.

Having a touch screen in an automobile is ridiculous. It causes much more distraction to the driver. I would take the old fashioned push buttons and levers any day of the week. I just want to get from point A to point B. I don't need to do it in the Star Ship Enterprise.

That’s a poor attempt at correlation … Not sure how you wound up so judgmental - but it’s almost daily, huh ?
… this member raised what some see as a genuine safety issue … But for you, silly ?
