My son and I, along with an old friend of mine attended the 30th anniversary Rolling Thunder ride Memorial weekend. We arrived in DC Saturday afternoon and left early Monday morning and had a great time. We got to the Pentagon early Sunday morning and after parking our bikes in a sea of bikes, spent the next 4 hours visiting the vendors and meeting people from all over the country and quite a few from several different countries. The guys from Scotland were a hoot, especially since they swore they were wearing nothing under their kilts. Just before we started to leave it started raining, and by the time we got onto the streets, it was like riding in a hurricane the entire route to the Mall between the Capital and the Lincoln memorial. The highlight of the trip was passing the saluting Marine, who held his salute for about 4 hours we're told, even in the pouring rain. We're planning on riding rolling thunder again in 2018.

Hope he doesn't get sick

I've done RT several times a number of years ago and that guy was there all day every time. I'm guessing he is long retired but he stands there at attention all afternoon.
Kudos to all who rode into DC with all the bad weather. And Kudos to our Sec. of State who participated in the whole affair, parking lot to end of ride.
After watching the video, the guy I'm talking about was an older Marine who stood in a little traffic triangle that jutted out from the sidewalk. I assumed he was retired because he was old. Never saw a guy standing in the middle of the road like that.
