I finally did it- last Friday, 5/28, bought & drove home the new ride. It seems I've needed a pickup almost every time I turn around for ages now, and sort of had in mind a full size Chevy/GMC or Ford shorty. Decent deals on used trucks are rare here. What I finally found: 2002 Dodge Dakota SXT Club Cab, 3.9L V6 ATx, nice gold color. OK, it's not new, 8 yrs old & 89K mi- but it's sure new to me!

Thanks- I really like it, even if it is missing a few luxuries. And Crinkles- here, the Dakota is considered a "mid-sized" truck. Bigger than the little Ford Rangers/Chevy S-10s, current Chevy Colorado, smaller than the full-size Fords, Chevys, Dodges. Though in the past few years the line has blurred a lot, as the once-small Nissans & Toyotas have grown- and grown- and grown....

But soon the Dakotas will be gone- Fiat has announced there will be no Dakotas for the 2011 model year.

Do they stop better when they're old?

You meant to say that Chrysler brake systems are not good.

Looks great. I prefer that exterior design over the current. I had a '95 Sport 2wd, short box, std. cab with 318ci & 3.92 gears. That was a real fun truck back in the 90s.

Nice! Dak's and Durango's of that era are pretty decent values compared to GM's, Ranger's, and import's. Depreciation over the years has hit 'em pretty hard.

I've had my 'Rango for 9 mo now and have figured out why, LOL! I've prolly got $500 into it already and new problems continue to pop up here n there- nothing major though. Still beats having a car payment! Plus, it fuels my hobby of getting out to the garage to turn a few wrenches, LOL!

I really like mine, though. Nice comfy, quiet ride. The 4.7 in mine has good power and a nice sound to it.

Though I don't have the money for a "new" vehicle, I was curious as I had not seen any newish Dakotas on lots or adverts. All there are here in NE ohio are ones with cancer of the rockers/beds.
