good, bad, ugly?

Looking for a new car. These look nice. Looking at a 5 speed, either an Si or a 4 door. What kinda mileage do these get in the real world?

Very refined and closer to the Accord in terms of NVH,smooth engine,not on edge and quite powerful,other old Civic attributes remain the same.

I like Honda, but if I had to buy a new smaller car, the Dodge Caliber deserves a look. Shame our corporate taxes made more sense for the merged company to be German rather than American

If you like Hondas and manual trannies, then consider a 2003 Acura CL-S 6-speed. Much more relaxed cruiser, but still faster than any Civic. Seats and HID headlights are very good. Navigation available. And you'll save thousands over a new car. Gas mileage not shabby if driven sensibly. No rear doors or fold down rear seats, but still roomy. Weak brake rotors is its only normal weakness...
I'd get an Accord I4 5-speed before I got an ugly little Civic.

I think the interior is horribly ugly and the front end (coupe) looks ugly. Granted they are reliable point a to b cars with a good reputation so they will sell well anyway. If I was in that market I would take a Mazda 3 5-door, very sturdy volvo s40 chassis with a smooth 160hp 4 cylinder, I was very impressed being a BMW nut.

Bash away, gentlemen!

I put a crowbar in my wallet and bought a 2006 EX 4-door sedan. I've had it for 6 months, and have yet to find anything subtantial that I don't like about it.

- Most comfortable seating position I've ever been able to achieve in a car. Telescoping steering wheel and adjustable seat height helps a bunch there.
- Excellent handling, both highway & in-town
- Plenty of power, if you are willing to rev it a little
- I like the exterior styling, especially the larger wheels / low profile tires that come standard on the EX
- The interior's fine by me. Got used to the digital speed readout very quickly. I think the interior materials are nice, but I don't put much thought into that
- Very easy to change oil / trans fluid

Cons:
- Makes a strange rumbling sound at 1400 rpm...intermittently.

Overall, is it the best 'bang for your buck'? No, a similarly priced 4cyl Accord would definitely be a better deal if that's what you want. I wanted a nice sporty, small sedan and I'm very happy with it!

I drove one and was on the waiting list for an Si. What can I say, I got the RSX for less money, more power...etc. In hindsight, the Accord Coupe' would have been a good choice.

What I hate;

Very packed engine compartment.

The dash and Tach.

The window/mirror side door setup. Watch for major leaks (both wind and water) there in the future.

5 speed revs WAY too high (reason for lower MPG over lower reving auto)

If your over size (I'm almost 6 foot 6) it's pretty tight.

Insurance is high. (kiddie car so they get into crashes alot)

The Price! (over 22k for some of them)

Likes;

Oil filter is in a MUCH better place than any other Honda civic.

They drive pretty nice.

If I was at a Honda Dealer buying a car that cost close to 20k, it would say Accord on it!

Take care, Bill

Nice car but the price of the Si is getting up there. I think I'd go with a Mazda 3. I do like the Civic a lot but I don't like the dash all that much. Engine is probably typical Honda - rock solid.

But Auto-Union, you're missing out on the LSD in the Si, which is (IMO) what made it so much fun. If you're not regularly breaking traction in that RSX you're not driving it properly

I could also do without the mandatory leather in the Type-S. I'll probably be taking the crowbar to my wallet once the Si sedan comes out.

Hey Matt, if you're happy, it doesn't bother me.

This should be the new BITOG motto (see dino vs. syn, OHC, GM vs import threads...) LOL

Both the Civic and RSX are great cars. The RSX just suited me better. My one problem...two probs with the Si was the r/s kneeroom, the EBrake is there and I did not want a car targeted by thieves. I could drive mine a bit harder, but an keeping it cool. Getting 32mpg-ish and I did have about a 10 mile stint at 115!
