The Missing Link

Interesting thanks. Does not really mean much regardless. Evolution is real.

Lol, I'm an archaeologist so I'm pretty sure it's real, too. My angle was that there was an extraodinary amount of hype surrounding this "discovery." An interesting piece of the puzzle but not one single, big missing link the way it was being played up.

Cool! Yeah I agree. Kind of a let down but still an interesting find.

The evidence is all around us, you just refuse to see it.

Evolution happens. It certainly is not a system of thought which should be narrowed down to a binary decision for either the lay person or those with bachelor's degrees who act, and type in internet forums, as experts.

Some folks should be allowed to disagree as to what degree evolution happens and apparently some even doubt the Ida's in our pop press, and the odd Darwinius masillae in the halls of academia.

Coincidently I'm not an expert on Ida, either, or any other proto-human primates (although I do have more than a BA). Paleoanthro always interested me with the exception of that whole traveling to Africa part. I manage federally-owned arch sites and other cultural resources and liaise with the local Native American tribes on behalf of Uncle Sam.

I'm curious how contact with extra terrestrials will be explained away under current doctrine. Much as the inability to traverse the ocean reliably was overcome and peoples started discovering other races/tribes, the inability to traverse interstellar space will also be overcome; it may take 2000 more years, but it will arrive; the Earth will in itself be considered a "Galapogos Island"

Do you recall some of the planets that contain ruins of advanced civilizations in some of the popular sifi's? I think we'll be one of them.

The only paucity of evidence is that which would confirm your desperate beliefs.

I don't see how this fossil proves or disproves much of anything. If it is a fossil of an ancient monkey is it not true that humans supposedly are related to the great apes? The human separation from the great apes was much later.

Like somebody said above an awful lot is being inferred from a handful of fossils.

Now before you go crazy I believe in evolution. But I think there are still more mysteries than answers. Let me give you just one example-in the not so distant past people thought that T-Rex stood upright. The bones were displayed that way in museums. But now they think that was incorrect.

In more recent times people thought that humans had caused the extinction of many large animals in the Americas. But now some scientists are saying that there was an asteroid impact that caused a major river system to change direction and greatly changed the weather conditions.

There are still more questions than there are answers.

It would be neat to find a 30 million yr old ape that had fallen into a deep anaerobic hole somewhere and gotten preserved so its DNA could be extracted. Human DNA is remarkably similar to today's apes, so we are certainly genetically related to them. Of course that could have also been created to be that way.
