Haven't touched the coolant in my '96 since I did the PI manifold about 8 years ago. Looks fine, somehow, but definitely time to refresh. Any reason to stick with the old school green stuff? Worth it to use something like Core-Guard that I'm using in my newer Fords?

I would continue using the spec green coolant. It will work with the metals in your system. I still run green in my older vehicles (32, 78,87, 94 model years)

While the old green is still available, you might be better served switching to G-05 (Ford/Motorcraft Gold) or Peak Global Lifetime. Another option is Peak 10x.

After 8 years the silicates have mostly all dropped out of suspension and are providing little to no corrosion protection. I'd plan on a full flush using a citric acid based cleaner, whatever coolant you choose.

This.

A flush is definitely a good idea if you used green silicate coolant and never changed it in 8 years!

I’m using Prestone Cor-Guard in a 98 Ranger with the Vulcan V6. If I was servicing it for oil changes, I’d run G-05. But the truck will go to a quick lube, so I figured while it’s a 2-EHA based pHOAT, it’ll play nice with Dex-Clone AMAM with no problem.

They drop out of suspension from prolonged sitting. If the engine is driven regularly they (silicates) do not drop out of suspension. I've tested old coolant (Prestone Green) and found this out

Peak Final Charge Pro is currently on sale at some places. Can't go wrong if you're already doing a citric acid flush.

OAT. No 2EHA.
