I live just a few blocks from the tunnel between Canada and Detroit. Even when the US dollar was $1.60 Canadian (just a few years ago), many of us for whom a trip to the states was not a long one would still do most of our shopping over there; never mind now that our currencies are near parity!
The number of Americans (Who really like throw money around! Have any of you ever been *tipped* by a Canadian? We don't throw money around so much...) who come *here* to Canada, however, has really (really) dropped off. This does not count all of the 19 and 20 year olds who flock here in droves every weekend from a 400 mile radius to enjoy our lower legal drinking ages and considerably more liberal laws regarding adult entertainment/ services and marijuana.
