This is a remodeled house in Florida. Very spacious and well executed inside. I have seen others just like it. Style? Void of any outside but tons inside.
I guess function over curb appeal eh?

Maximizes real, usable space. Looks more old-school plantation style house versus modern. I don't hate it but I don't love it.

There was a few things it reminds me of:

"It is designed by a civil engineer instead of an architect" is what one of my friend said to a civil engineer who build his own house.
"It looks like affordable housing build today" with little style and accessories, changes in exteriors that break patterns, large flat walls, etc. The multiple of small windows instead of using the opportunity of a larger window is beyond me, you are not fooling anyone with these tiny windows and make the house look cheap when you look at it closely.

It address a need but wouldn't trigger any emotion good or bad.

I’ve seen some houses like that here but a whole lot smaller. Actually a large subdivision is getting ready to go in with box homes of 200 to 400 sf.

From a carpenter’s point of view, quick to assemble and then quickly move on to the next square house. Maximum profit.
Yep. Simple shapes are cheaper to build and can be built better (Better air sealing, water management, etc). Unfortunately the architect failed measurably on this one as it is not appropriate for the Florida climate, but builders like it because the footprint is so small. More units built per acre of land.

Here's a "square" built in humid Atlanta.

Im assuming you accidentally dropped zeros off the end of those numbers...

Nope. That’s the latest thing. This particular development is 82 acres. They will have a community center and other facilities like laundry and such. They are basically stand alone hotel rooms. The bigger ones will have a kitchenette.

$500 a month.

It's better than the one I had shown.
Agreed. If I had a premium lot, I am not going to waste it on a cooker cutter special.
You are limiting possible buyers and leaving a bunch of $$$ on the table.
The above example isn't my style but at least it is cheerful and two toned with an overhang.
I suspect basic houses are built by builders with limited skill and resources... Just a thought.

The architectural complain about these kind of box home is that you do not get a lot of windows and you may waste a lot of space in walkway between places. It may not be a big problem if the house is 2500+ sqft but for homes with only 1500-2000sqft, I've seen some new boxes wasted like 1/5 of its interior space as narrow walkway between rooms and stairs, as well as some rooms with window on the "narrow" side facing East or West (no sunlight in morning or afternoon), or even worst, facing north (you get no sunlight in the winter) in cold climate or facing south in hot climate (your room gets overheated).

L shaped house typically works better for window access and less walkway waste. Of course you will have to pay more in heating cooling and construction because of the extra exterior wall surface vs a box. I would still prefer an L over a box.
