Changed the oil on my 2001 F-250 7.3L PowerStroke Diesel pickup.
The OCI was 3700 miles.
The oil during this interval was Chevron Delo 400LE 15W-50 It was replaced with Rotella T6 5W-40 Synthetic for winter. Based on past experience, plus looking at this filter, I will extend my OCI to at least 5000 miles.
The FL-1995 was drained for two days in the pan shown, then cut open using my filter cutter.
The bottom of the can was clean. The black stuff on the top of the filter cartridge is not sludge. It looks like some kind of rubber bonding adhesive...perhaps used to attach the media to the endcaps:
Here is the filter, broken down. There is no anti-drainback valve in this filter. When changing the oil on the truck, I pre-fill this filter with almost 2 quarts of oil! oil in the pan is from the filter.
A closeup of the filter media and the seam. I think it looks outstanding....especially for a diesel.
Now, here's the XG7317 from our Infiniti FX-45 running Mobil 1 using a 5000 mile OCI:
Can also looks nice and clean. Oil filter didn't drain out due to the anti-drainback valve.
Here's the breakdown:
Looks darker than it is on this camera. Nothing of concern here for me. If I let the filter media drain on the paper towel for a day or two, it would lighten up like the truck filter.
Now, for fun, here's the comparison of the sizes of these two filters. Quite a difference!! The Infiniti hold about 6 quarts, and the truck holds 15 quarts...
Hope you found this useful!
