Finally fixed the shifter today. About $40 parts & JB Weld. Looks like this is a very common problem as these Saturns age.
Two weeks ago, a co-worker told me how his shifter on his car went out on him. I asked "you have a Saturn?" He said "Yeah, how did you know?"
He got it fixed at a local repair shop for about $275. Not too bad considering the dealer wants well over $600 from what he said.
So as of this evening, there's a lot more hope that the old '96er just might hit 200K after all! Woohoo!
