I have a 1984 Land Cruiser FJ60 with 196,000 miles. It runs great, uses about 1 quart of oil every 2500 miles. I change oil every 2500 miles, which for me is 4 times per year. During most of the year I run Delo 15w40, but during the 3 hot months of the summer I switch to Chevron 20w-50 (hey-it's $0.69 per quart!). I was at Wal-Mart today and bought 2 gallons of the Shell Rotella T synthetic 5w-40. I'm thinking of running this over the winter this year-my next oil change will likely be in November. Does anyone see any issues with this? I don't have any oil leaks, at least not motor oil anyway. If I run this stuff November-March, it will likely accumulate 4000 miles or so which is a bit longer than my usual interval. The climate here is mild, the low temp might hit 30 degrees. I will go to Tahoe several times, and will be spending a week in Death Valley in Febuary, so there will be a few cold starts at maybe 20 degrees. I've been a Chevron guy on my older Land Cruisers forever so the Shell is out of my comfort zone. Should I just stick with my usual Delo 15w40 (my normal winter oil), or is this synthetic Rotella the real deal? My oil capacity is 8.2 quarts if that matters. Thanks for any and all replies.

I have had good luck with it in a Land Rover and Isuzu. Its definately still a 40 weight when hot. I think a good idea over the winter, esp in the mountains.
I believe in it. I use it in my son's and my daughter's cars, a Camaro and a Cavalier.
On her Cavalier, a used oil analysis showed excessive fuel in the oil, but not abnormal wear. The oil still did its job.
I may start it in my car after the winter; I have a supply of Pennzoil to use for my next change this Fall, when colder weather comes. Ford 5.0 L.
Our other vehicle is a Jeep Liberty. I used it in there for one oil change, but then converted to Schaeffer.
The biggest reason I don't just use it in everything is that there are so many good oils discussed here to try.
You can't go wrong with it. I recommend it.
If you have that kind of an oil capacity, you may want to consider extending your oil change interval. But, I don't know how much you drive it now. Maybe those 2500 mile OCIs are twice a year ? I would do at least twice a year unless I never encountered cold weather.

This Land Cruiser gets about 10,000 miles per year, so about 4 oil changes. I can remember 5k changes and half of that, but 3k changes would be out of the question! Normally, I get the Delo in a case of 6 gallons at Costco-that makes each change pretty cheap, so I'm not interested in extended intervals. This truck has a carberator and manual choke, so I'm sure there is fuel dilution in normal use. I think I'm going to try the Shell and see what happens. My "new" Land Cruiser (a 1997) runs on Mobil 1, but that seems like overkill on a 20 year old wagon with almost 200k miles. I would like it to see 300,000 miles and it seems like it will. These are some tough beasts. If Widman sees this, what do the petrol Cruisers run for oil in Bolivia? Both of my older Cruisers ('76 and '84) have run Chevron Delo or Supreme for at least 5 years. I've never done analysis, and probably won't given my short change intervals and religious maintence.
I believe the Shell Rotella T 5W40 will do an excellent job in you cruiser. If you ever run out of room for all those crusiers, send one to me. I could sure use it this winter in WI.
Jonny-All 3 of these cruisers are from California and have no rust. Up there in the frigid north, that would change quickly, so no thanks. Thanks for the reply though, like I said, I'm going to try the Shell since I bought it and see how it goes.
