Thanks to the advice given here and links to tests, I've concluded these items would be best to maintain my 3-cylinder Honda engine (insight 140,000 miles):
Mobil 1 5w30 extended performance(slightly thicker than the 0w-20 recommended)
Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filters
AC Delco air filters
Now I just need to figure-out what to run in my Beetle. Looks like the only options are the VW505.01-approved oils and oil/air filters designed for Euro engines. i.e. Limited options.
