Textar Q+ Noise Dampening Shim

I ordered a set of aftermarket Textar brake pads for a Beetle (pictured below) and a F84 X1. Both sets of pads now have a fabric-looking shim on the backing plate. This sorta reminds me of the material the same shim material that Wearever Platinum pads have. Hopefully this makes these brakes quieter.

I have seen pads on a GM car that had a plain / simple thin plastic " shim " on the back / caliper side . I too figured it was for noise reduction . Can not remember any difference in noise , good or bad .
