Until they cleared the trees from wires in the green belt behind my house, we would lose our electricity every time it snowed and most of the time when it would rain. My generator has been used and used well. They've since sent Asplundh out and no outages since (knock wood).
I've got a Chinese made OHV Honda clone powered generator. I am honestly suprised at how long it has lasted. A testament to either Honda's design or improved Communist Chinese product quality. I really did not expect it to work as hard as it has for as long as it has.
That [darned] thing still starts first pull. I start it once a month or so to keep the gas from turning to varnish in the carb and to get the oil up to operating temperature. burn the acids and moisture out of it.
I would have liked to have purchased a North American made generator, but the hardware store only had a lesser output generator for quite a bit more money. I really only wanted to save the contents of my upright freezer and that ChiCom generator fit the bill.
I use Quaker State Synthetic 10w30 (clearance at Autozone - $1.99 qt. bought it all) and Sta-Bil.
