But I’m just back from the EU and people were parked all over the narrow roads … very few have a garage much less a driveway … Heck … even the gas stations were small and property is very expensive …
They want all this - but already only the upper class can buy and charge them at home …

European market, from my understanding, is very different than the US. You will not see urban cowboy driving crewcab because they have a boat they tow once a year over a mountain range going 55mph uphill. They do like their compacts and they love their "estate" aka wagons.

Tesla or other EV would likely be a workaround for local laws banning diesel on certain streets in downtown, tax incentive (even bigger than US), carpool lane access, or parking access. You can complain it is not fair all you want but that's what they voted for and that's their energy security incentive (reduce Russian oil reliance). With that much gov incentive they would definitely have enough charging lots.
