Rob Mauer on his Tesla Daily YouTube channel reported yesterday that reliable sources said the the new Giga Berlin factory is about to go to three shifts daily, six days per week production. That tells me several things:

1. The supply chain problem for raw materials and parts isn't a constraining issue
2. Enough employees have now been trained that there is a workforce available to work that many hours per week
3. Elon is confident that he will sell every Tesla that can be produced at the Berlin factory as fast as he can make them

This is pretty impressive for a factory that was up and running as fast as it was, even with all of the delays that were caused by regulations, permits, etc. Does anyone want to bet if Austin follows suit in a short period of time, and if the rumored new factory in Indonesia won't also go from groundbreaking to rolling Teslas off the assembly line in record time ?

It was also reported that Tesla employees will be getting raises. I guess the recent purge of white collar and administrative workers who were deemed to be "non-essential" is saving enough money that the cash can go to the blue collar workers. Who already make a very nice prevailing wage and don't need a union to represent them.

I guess Elon's supposed distraction with the whole Twitter deal isn't that much of a distraction after all. The Q2 numbers will be announced Saturday, with expected lower figures due to the Shaghai Covid shutdown(s) but I fully expect Q3 to be another record breaking quarter.

Over the past couple of years, with the global issues, Tesla has shown itself to be the best managed, best run automobile company in the world.
Every metric shows that.

I have delivered parts to electrical contractors inside the Mothership (original automotive factory) in Fremont, California. Can confirm. Efficiency and focus.

Perhaps.

In late May Elon said Germany and Shanghai were costing billions. He called them money furnaces.

Yes that was all over the news. If you read the articles, he was referring to prolonged Shanghai shutdown, which will likely lead to missing Q2 delivery targets, and supply chain issues at both plants.

And... next week he will probably spout off about having to lay off more people... His actions are amusing at times as well as being a bit ridiculous/impractical, but I have no ties with him and never intend to, so is what it is.

Maybe he will respond to the bashing the Plaid is getting for the braking system failure for what that guy was trying to make the car do. Likely a publicity stunt for more viewer income than actual fact, but who knows...

Musk does not like boardroom work; the laid off employees were management, not worker bees. Perhaps you know during crunch times he is known to stay 24x7 in his factories, sleeping in a sleeping bag sometimes. Tesla is known as a sweatshop and that Musk is the hardest working person in the company.

The new Indonesia plant would be a huge win for that country. Indonesia has huge mineral reserves including nickel and the solar power generation aspect is a big seeking point as well.

One thing I respect Elon for is his drive for getting to the goal, the ambition, regardless of whether it is profitable now or not. Not too many people can resist the temptation of just reaping the reward today, and even fewer will resist keeping what they have and dump more into the bet to get to an even bigger goal.

Having your wife divorce you because you are eating peanut butter and jelly sandwich all day, sleeping at the factory floor getting things done with the engineers and workers, firing managements who aren't technical enough to lead, not trusting MBAs management unless they can really show their worth, those qualities are hard to get these days.

Too risky of a business (for investment or for employment) for my liking but I wish Telsa the best.

You must not do business with them. I genuinely love what Tesla has done for the automotive industry and love that it's forcing electric vehicles into the market.

But they are horrendous to work with in a lot of aspects. Great in many, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Actually, I met with the Tesla CIO in Redmond at Microsoft and discussed their SAP MRP replacement, home grown software project. Microsoft set up the ritzy dinner and meeting. I gave them ny thoughts; it was a great time, went well into the night. There was back and forth talk about me being part of the project for the next couple of weeks. Microsoft even gave me a Microsoft cell phone with a 6 month plan; their phones were just released at that time.
Later, Microsoft told me to not take a job with them, Tesla is a sweatshop. The project was a huge success; Elon hates SAP. So do I, for that matter.

I don't fully understand the bolded part, Later, Microsoft told me to not take a job with them, Tesla is a sweatshop.

Microsoft told you not to take a job with Microsoft?
Microsoft told you not to take a job with Tesla ?
Teslas use whatever is the 2022 version of Windows CE, embedded software into non-Microsoft devices a la Sega Dreamcast just 2022, Tesla automobiles?

"Tesla is a sweatshop" - is why Microsoft told you not to take a job with?

Unrelated, but also not, since talking about production plants.. Tesla DOES seem to be doing better than an American Toyota production facility. Which just voted to go to 4 day workweeks, and put a screeching halt to production.. only to now be (again) beating the drums of massive hiring, including re-working West Plant to do Lexus (long ways off.) Also doing everything they can to eliminate overtime.. successfully so. 6 months ago you could work all the hours you could, 2 hours over every day, mandatory Production Saturday to sell the cars to South Korea . They are actively recruiting again and "acting like all supply chain issues are solved," remember Toyota has Lean Production system and touts themselves as inventing it. Pallets full of airbags in cardboard boxes. Comparing this to Tesla because you didn't day Tesla Austin, you said Berlin..

They must have these cars sold before they are built?

This whole thing is fascinating to me, I thought Tesla was not cost-competitive.

Autonomation = Run the human like a machine, Tesla is not the only one that does that. Alternate: Have one person do the work of 2 or 3 people. Been around for decades.

After meeting with the Tesla CIO, there was talk about me working on the Tesla software tiger team.
This was software for material procurement for the car manufacturing lines.

Around Silicon Valley, Tesla was hot; hiring like crazy but working people to death, aka "sweatshop". Microsoft warned me to not go to work for Tesla.

Assuming this conversation is in the 2010s, MSFT was pretty much the laziest of the tech industry doing the rest and vest thing with Steve Balmer. Nothing new, nothing leads to a boom, losing talents to Google, etc, until they started copying AWS and fired Steve. Some part of MSFT is still like that today, but rumor has it GOOG is getting that title either now or very close.

People back then don't work for TSLA because of WLB and money, nobody does today either (FAANG does not include TSLA). Which is obviously the polar opposite of MSFT.

Everyone hates SAP, they are forced to use it because they were sort of the "standard".

This was a custom application using Visual Studio and SQL Server with a 2 way interface to SAP.
Here is the result.
