I have a potential job there which would also mean relocating there permanently. I've driven through it once but don't know anything about it. Anyone more familiar with it?
It's a lot hotter than the central coast, that's for sure! Stopped there for gas more times than I care to remember. Kind of the last outpost before you get into the mountains if you're going any direction other than south. Lake Shasta is nearby.
Lassen Peak to the east, Lake Shasta just barely up the road, Trinity Lake to the west, coast not too far to the west, close to great wine country, olives and almonds everywhere. Actually, it sounds pretty good.
Hotter than blazes in the summer, can snow in the winter. Still sounds pretty good.
I lived there for almost five years and I still go up there about once a month to visit friends. In fact I'm thinking about moving back because my life has gotten pretty [censored] since moving back home to Sacramento. your signature says central coast as in Bodega bay? What kind of work will you be doing? I'm guessing healthcare because most of the jobs there are in healthcare or city/state government. I'll list things that you will notice right away about living there.
1. Summers are HOT and rain season last longer than middle of the state. light snow in winter occasionally
2. population is very homogenized (mostly white people)especially compared to other cities in California. If you are from other parts of California it will feel like a different state (...*cough Nevada cough*
3. People drive the speed limit lol and are much friendlier than other places in the state
4. (this will surprise many) hot women I'm dead serious theres a good deal of attractive women in town lol
5. huge unemployment
6. people dont lock the doors to their house or vehicles..really weird
in short I loved my monday-friday life in Redding. My job was awesome and I loved my coworkers. The problem was other than lakes and trees theres nothing within three hours driving distance. Going to a Giants game was like taking a vacation instead of something I could do after getting off work.
Red Bluff is 30 miles south of Redding. Reddingites tend to make fun of Red bluff the same way people in Sacramento make fun of Rio Linda. I personally would much rather live near the ocean but I guess it would depend on how secure and well paying the job is. Redding area is not the sticks if thats what you are worried about. There are two wal marts and two whole movie theaters! but only one smallish mall. If you have kids the streets are pretty safe. If you are a single dude good luck finding a girl below age 30 that doesnt have kids. If you are into the outdoors its a great place to live. One of my friends bow hunts with her husband all the time. Burney is like Tahoe with a much smaller body of water. mt shasta is visible from the city. The air smells much cleaner than any city I have been in.
4. (this will surprise many) hot women I'm dead serious theres a good deal of attractive women in town lol
I'm not disputing what you are saying, but the good looking women must have been hiding (or having their nails done) every time I've driven through there.

go to bert and ernies off hilltop or bombays on California st downtown(or the coyote ugly clone place across the street for that matter) friday or saturday night and tell me that town doesnt have hot girls lol
The best looking girls I have dated in my life were all in that town. One looked like Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox combined. I miss that dang place.....sigh
I forgot about kool April nights car show every year and the rodeo in May. One of the bad things about living there is they dont let you have fireworks for 4th of July which is down right un-American if you ask me
I have lived here for 10 years . I grew up and lived in the SF Bay Area. I really like the area but it is like a third world country in comparison to the SF Bay Area. I pretty much love this area . If you like out of doors type activities this is the place, especially if you have a job. Red Bluff is about 20 or 30 miles South of Redding and the property now is cheap.

Yes, because 14 year olds shooting off roman candles into the dry foothills is American as it gets. Have to cut education more to address emergencies.
