TDI fuel economy

A good friend of mine has an '05 Jetta TDI (PD), with a tuner from Dieseltuning.ca on it. He has it on the highest setting, and the car works very well. Car is sort of a charcoal grey with black leather inside.

He's been running Delvac 1 5w40 in it and OEM VW filters.

Last weekend, my sister needed to be driven up to my Aunt's place in Muskoka. Trip from here to her house is ~250Km.

We leave Peterborough and fill up the Jetta at an Esso station in Lindsay, which is roughly 50Km away from our departure point.

We arrive at my Aunt's and the fuel gauge is just coming off the full line.

Drop off my sister, and then head back on home (I drove it back). We pull into my driveway and the needle was just under the 3/4 mark, still touching the line. We had gone ~450Km on 1/4 tank of fuel!!!

Jon was then able to tour around for the rest of the week on that same tank.

I was quite impressed. The car has ample passing power (gotta love that turbo!) and scoots along at highway speed effortlessly.

Sounds nice. I've never been in a Jetta.

He knows that it's not approved. But there have been numerous used oil analysis showing it does BETTER in terms of wear numbers than many of the approved oils.

Most VW engines are excellent, and some are even better. As for TDIs, those engines will still be running long after the bodies are trashed -- and the bodies have a 12-year anti-rust warranty.

Perhaps you meant "[censored]" and not "dam"?
