I think this may not really relevant with today's oil that may have different formulation. So even though the article is good, we may not be able to replicate the effect since we can not find or use those oil tested

Very impressive:

1) finding the old "study" (as unofficial as it were)
2) 408 posts in a month; perhaps a new BITOG record ...

Some stop by BITOG and some live here.

At the end of each Car Talk Show they say "so you wasted another hour listening to Car Talk". Could the same be said about BIOTG?

Yeah, that has got to be coming up on 10 years old, still, kudos to the people who did it, posted it, and have kept it live on the web all this time. Cool!

Interesting historical data, and I like it because they were doing the test on an LS1 Camaro. But it all seems pointless when you look at the amount of top-up oil used: 6.5 quarts over the 18,000-mile M1 test. That's more than one complete oil change, and a consumption rate of about 2770 miles/quart. My Camaro always did better than that, where I would only add 1/2-quart over a 7500-mile OCI, triggered by the OLM. Their strategy could not lead to cost-savings by extended OCI's.

The AMSoil result was a disappointment. They should have changed the oil when the viscosity went into the 40-weight range. Why weren't they measuring oxidation?
