Tacoma lubes questions

bulwnkl and bbtaco are correct for the atf. have at least 5 quarts on hand (dex III or compatible syn atf) to be on the safe side if you plan on just dumping the fluid. if you want to do a exchange or flush you'll need more, 15 is what most people say. my 4runner dumped a little over 4 qts and was somewhat surprised also when i got that much out the first time. the 4runner and taco guys got the same after i did some research on other forums and is quite easy to do if you want to save some cash. make sure to check and or change the washer/gasket on the plug also and follow a routine schedule and you'll get many miles from your taco. fwiw i use just reg dex III (ace hardware brand (who makes that?)) and it is silky smooth.

Yep 4-5 qts on a drain and refill of that transmission. Dex II or III is good for 02 and prior Tacomas. With such easy drain and refills (easier than the motor oil) there is no reason not to do it regularly. I am considering putting a sure drain on mine to save the aluminum threads on the transmission pan.

I just changed my rear diff after two years of use the coastal came out looking brand new. Unlike the factory break in lube that was knalry looking gear lube when it came out (pre-extended breather)When I get through my stock of Coastal gear lube I will go to synthetic as contamination seems to be a non issue for me. Maybe if I find some money lying around I can regear to get some performance back first

I have a 2002 V6 and im currently using amsoil 5w30, on my next oil change ill use 10W30. For the rear and front diff and xfer case amsoil server gear 75W90. For the transmission redline D4 (auto).
