Synthetic oil is synthetic based oil. Made with a synthetic base oil. Sometimes portions of the additive packages in certain synthetic motor oils use conventional oils as "carriers", or rather the additives are dissolved in this conventional oil and sold as an additive package or part of the additive package used in synthetic motor oil. There are many exceptions and twists and turns to this as well.
