My apologies, but the factory shop manual (published by Helm, Inc.) for my 2004 Avalanche states otherwise, and clearly indicates that the locking differential used contains both limited slip and mechanical locking qualities.quote:

My suspicion is that GM specifies the use of synthetic for reasons other than differential longevity (maybe CAFE purposes, I don't know....).
