Is there a full synthetic that is easily purchased (Sold by Wally or local stores) that has the same metal clinging properties as Castrol GTX Startup? Startup is getting hard to find. I need an oil simular to startup due to my piston slap.

Syntec or Syntec Blend are probably your best bets. I'm about to try Syntec Blend in my 3.4 slapper, so I'll let you know how it does.

I take it you're getting good noise reduction with the GTX Startup?

Mobil 1 should qualify.

Mobil 1 doesn't have esters anymore. They use AN.

Yeah, its still slapping, but nowhere nearly as bad. It also doesn't last as long. GTX startup was a blessing. Its really getting hard to find, that why I am looking for a synthetic with the same ability to quiet the slap.

Yeah, you could just try spiking conventional w/ a quart of redline. You could always order it online from somewhere. Doesn't AMSOIL have esters blended into its formulations somehow?

BTW, I went to Wal-Mart tonight and there were 4 qts of GTX Startup 5w30 on the automotive section clearance shelf for $1.50 each. I snapped them up.

Beacuse they hide it with all the other stuff people dont want...its usually piled up on a shelf in an area that gets little traffic...if you near the end caps in the automotive section you might stumble upon them, just look for the terrible looking license plate frames...just look for the junk!

Exactly. These four bottles were actually burried behind some junk on the clearance shelf. I just happned to glance at the shelf and caught a glimpse of the red cap on the top of one of the bottles. I dug them out and then took them to one of those self-scan pricing stations to see what they were "on sale" for.

It's been months since GTX Startup was on the regular oil shelves at my Walmart, so it's no telling how long these bottles have been burried on the clearance shelf.

Since my 3.4 holds 4.5 quarts, I still have 1/2 a quart from the last time I used Startup in my van. So now I've got enough for an oil change. But I'd already bought Syntec Blend for the upcoming oil change, so that's what is going in later this week.
