Got my test back today. Now I need to decide what to do about the head gasket leak. I guess my Sentra isn't as healthy as I hoped it was.

Nothing is sinking the ship at this point. You have plenty of time to plan your pain of choice.

Hi-

I don't think it's a job I'd want to tackle. If I had a lighted garage with a cement floor and many tools, then I might, but I don't. I have a dirt floor garage and not many tools. I really don't want to attempt to do this.

Hoping someone here can help me decide what to do.

How about Blue Devil? It's about $65 but has a money back guarantee.

Go with the least invasive product you can find to start off with. I don't see your level of coolant infiltration as critical as of yet. All of these products have baggage that comes with them. When I bought my daughter's 93 Taurus, it was just a water pump. Then it was a head gasket. Then it was melted heads and a cracked block. The head removal showed that there had been lots of sealants/remedies used in the past.

This may not be a progressive condition, but I'd check it out with others who are more acquainted with the engine. They will provide the most insight. Be prepared for many "Do the job right and spend more than you can possibly afford and just live with it" type responses. They don't live with your wallet.

For some they say it may not progress at all, but it may anyway. If I had it fixed right, I think the car would last virtually forever. It runs great and has very few symptoms of HG leak.

Thank you all for the ideas. :-)

Add a couple bottles of Subaru's cooling system conditioner.

Keep your OCI's under 3k miles. With the cost of a synthetic, I would probably just use the cheapest mineral oil and change ~2-2.5k. $10 storebrand/sale/rebated oil changes are much cheaper then a dealer's head gasket job.

I had the same exact vehicle (model and year) and it did show signs of a minor coolant leak as well. I added Bar's leak to it at 50K or so and when I sold it with 228K, the engine was still running like a clock. The leak never got any worse than adding a cup full of antifreeze every 5,000 miles or so.
