synpower 5-30 vs synpower 5w-30 FE

Hi all.

Anyone knows what the big difference is between the synpower 5w30 and the synpower 5w30 FE.

I am currently running the FE in my mazda because the oil has the required acea a5/b5 approval. But was wondering if there is any major difference compared to the ordinary synpower 5w-40

I'll assume that the FE is for Fuel Economy and may be a lower cST 5W30 compared to regular SynPower 5W30.
Is your mention of 5W40 a mistake? Or are you wanting to know the differences between 5W30 & 5W40

No problem! I don't know the exact figures on the spec sheet for either of the two oils but, as I stated, the FE is probably a bit thinner than the regular SynPower and may have a slightly different additive package as well, to aid in the fuel economy area. Maybe closer to the spec of a 5W20 that we'd get here in the States.

The acea a5/b5 is As i am informed a fuel eficiant norm. But what about antiwear. Will the ordinary synpower take better care of the engine then the synpower fe? Is the fe to much of a compromise in favor of fuel efficincy.? Sorry for the bad spelling

The difference in wear is probably negligible. Use what you prefer. Just being thicker does not mean "better" protection. Use what your vehicle spec's and go "light as possible, thick as necessary" as stated in the motor Oil 101 article. Check it out when you get some time. I admit I struggle with the thick vs. thin issue but the more used oil analysis I see the more I am convinced that going heavier is not much if any better.

I think i will stick with the synpower FE. It carryes the acea a5/b5. And i have noticed no noise or other problems. It runs verry quit and smooth.

No, the A5/B5 specification has a combination of fuel economy requirements AND some pretty good antiwear, sludge and deposit requirements. It's basically got all the engine protection requirements of A3/B4 but with a good fuel efficiency requirements thrown in as well.
