My motorcycle has some new scratches on the lids. The bike is vivid black. I need advice from the pro's. Do I use a "black wax" to make this go away or do I have to go further?

Turtle Wax swirl and scratch remover worked surprisingly well. A step up would be Meguiars ultimate compound. Apply wax/sealant after. Skip the black wax.

If you truly want to remove the scratches and not hide them, which some waxes with fillers will do, you need to use a polish. Think about a diamond. Diamonds get their surface beauty from polishing...not waxing.

Something like Meguiars Mirror Glaze #205 Ultra Finishing Polish ( https://bit.ly/3vSfgTE ), and then protect the finish and paint with something like Super DoubleCoat Auto Wax #476 by Collinite ( https://bit.ly/2WUqAN2 ).

Since you said “vivid black“, I’m inclined to think Harley. They are known for “soft” paint. Do not use a compound. Use a polish. For otc, megs ultimate polish will do, as will the direct above post. If you have or have access to a DA polisher, and a mild pad you can work most all of them out.

Yup it is a Harley

For the most part, I've stopped polishing. If you have light swirl marks, I would rather fill the swirls with a wax.
