Oz is just about to take delivery of 10s of millions of doses of swine flu vaccine, and start a campaign to immunise everybody.

Sort of a bit late, after the disease has run its (relatively) mild course through the country.

There was a doctor on the radio yesterday, who was calling for extreme caution, as this is a 3 dose vaccine, not the traditional single dose.

Apparently, the single dose vaccine uses a whole lot of active material and no adjuvant.

Due to the number of doses, they have cut the amount of active ingredient, and introduced an adjuvant (most likely squalene), so that the amount of active material can be stretched further.

Squalene "soups up" the immune response, making it respond much harder to the active material.

Some say too hard...leading to possible short and long term side effects.

We're being told that we have a long safe history of flu vaccination...but the vaccine that they are preparing this time is nothing like the "safe" vaccine of the past.

Has anyone tested for antibodies in a sample of the population to see what percentage has already had the flu? I think this is yet another case of a big corporation raiding the treasury.

You might say that oily.

The stats were that if you had the flu down here this year, there was a greater than 50% chance that it was swine flu.

SIL had it, and it was rampant through this town, with an epicentre being the MacDonalds on the crossroads of the two roads out of Sydney.

They stopped testing in town, under direction, and would only test teachers and health care workers.

Never taken a flu shot in my life. That said I might do it in this case.

Based on the above: NO, thank you.

Well lets put it this way, back in the '50's I talked my folks out of having me vaccinated for polio. Lost that bet and darn near died. The world was lucky as I lived and was not crippled.

With the above experience I don't gamble with my health any longer. YES I WILL take the shot even tho I'm past the age that they claim as being susceptible, if its available.

Yah I know, thats why we already have 522 deaths in the U.S. and its not even flu season yet.

I wonder if I already had it. At the beginning of summer my sister gave me the flu and it was worst one that I've remember. Didn't go to the doctor and just took a lot of Excedrin and Mucinex so I have no idea what I got.

Research done by Lancet Medical Journal, has found that the flu vaccine has not prevented flu related deaths in people over the age of 65. This confirms earlier research in 2005.

Vaccines are a [censored] shoot at best. The flu shot is only as good as the educated guesses of a group of vaccine researchers across the globe. Every February, they try to predict which flu viruses will work their evil during the next fall and winter. Their three top choices are put into the vaccine.

Myself, I have NEVER taken one and have NEVER gotten the flu. When the company I worked for for 9 years offered the shot, those (in my unscientific and informal personal poll) who took the shot were 3 times MORE likely to contract the flu vs. those of us that didnt.

Whats that old saying..."An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". IMO, nothing beats clean living, common sense and good hygine.

With the mutation potential why even waste your time on something that will basically be a placebo. The media and government agencies are fear mongering us all to be prepared. I am more concerned over salmonella in my food, cryptosporidium in my water or meningitis outbreaks than the overhyped Swine Flue. I am not immunocompromised so really am not too worried about it.

How many deaths from regular (non H1N1) flu?
I bet 10x

I'm not taking it.

Well once again with being a cancer surivor with a compromised immune system I'll stick to the shots.

Many told me to not take the chemo therapy, well the end result was remission with chemo, the alternative was a box in the dirt.

Frankly I'll trust the Medical community, They've done excellant by me so far, with the good Lords help of course.

Just my 2 cents, which means alot being as I'm still kicking.
