For a 1996 pickup with 240 HP, it's about what I'd expect. It's faster than a V-10 2WD regular cab Ram of the same vintage. It's probably hard to get decent traction with it too.

True, but when you hear SVT, and see the cobra rims, I would of expected more.

Yea traction has to be a pain in the ars.

This thing needs a supercharger, the only thing it has going for it:

1) Manual Transmission
2) 3.73 Gears

I had an 88 Ranger from the time I was sixteen until I was 20. It had the 2.0 motor. I would have loved to have the 302!

As it was the four-banger got 25mpg on the highway and I was still always out of gas. With this monster I would have never had enough gas money to feed her.

I do think if Ford had built this truck it certainly wouldn't have hurt the Rangers image. The V6's they put in them didn't get much better mpg than a V8 would have.

Coulda Shoulda Woulda

We seen a bunch of these at the Carlisle Ford Show. Most were duplicates. People have been putting 302's into rangers for quite some time.

Its old technology..

I'd like one with a 4v 4.6L and a blower..

Yes, but you can do heads/cam/intake on the 302 and make well over 300HP to the wheels with EASE; build a 347, and 400+HP is not uncommon. These are wheel numbers. That's close to 500HP flywheel without a power adder. Lets see the Civic do that

I don't know how accurate that 1/4 mile time or 0-60 time is. My '87 GT T-top went 14.2 at 99Mph BONE STOCK; that's a 3300lb car with a 225HP engine and 3.08's, the Ranger can't weigh much more; in fact it's probably lighter and has the same engine as the Cobra, which in the Fox, went mid 13's. Maybe somebody can't drive

Thanks! (I think?)

OVERK1LL,
A Civic Si with 10 PSI of boost will leave 99% of all Mustangs in the dust.

JUST KIDDING

I don't want this to turn into another Mustang verses Civic thread.

I had a 5.0 Mustang running high 12's with just bolts ons and 3.55 gears. I was once racing a 911 Turbo and my headlights went out at 125 miles per hour.

Hehehehe, a buddy of mine had an '04 Termi with a set of twins on it

850RWHP; though daily driver trim was 750RWHP. Yeah, it was apparently quite fun.

Good friend of mine has an '82 Capri that was run at the recent Pinks all out. Stock '88 block, rods and crank, .030 over with some DSS pistons, AFR 185's, generic Comp XE camshaft (XE285HR I think) and a little help for a Vortech S-Trim. 534RWHP, 10.2 running out of gear (3.55's) through a C4 with a brake.

You didn't have the foglight switch issue did you? My '87 had the switch replaced because of that......

My junk has never made a full pass since I did heads/cam/intake on it. Grenaded my T5 on a 5,000RPM launch on it's first trip to the track.

Since then, the engine has changed bodies, it got a new cam and a few other parts. When it's finally back together it should be really fun. All stock Cobra suspension, IRS, 98 GT seats, the original cluster out of my '87 (matches the mileage on the engine), fresh transmission, 3.73's.... Should be a lot of fun.

Yeah, I got a recall letter and the dealer installed a new switch. It was a great car, the only problem other than the switch was that the ignition control module on the distributor died twice.

Yeah, computer heatsink grease works well at preventing that. Arctic silver FTW!@!

Common issue on all TFI-equipped Ford vehicles from that era. Ford later remotely mounted the module in a heatsink that stopped the issue from occurring.

Just look at the trap speed... almost 95 MPH but still only pulling a 15.1

It's SEVERLY TRACTION limited. That thing is pulling HARD through the gates. Anything else that runs 95 in the 1/4 mile would be in the low-mid 14s.

Not to mention you have an almost stock 302 begging to be modded. I think it's an awesome sleeper setup.
