Their cartridge style filters are pretty good. I've been buying ST filter for my Ecotec 2.2 from WM for years without any issues. Their suppliers change often and what I've noticed filters from China are pretty poor quality. South Korean and U.S. made filters are top notch. I've also seen those cartridge filters made somewhere in Easter Europe (Romania, I think) which were also OK.

I haven't opened any regular ST filters in the last 5 years, but I think they should be OK. My dad has been using ST filter in his '95 Accord and never had a problem. For the newer car I would definitely go with something more proven like M1, K&N, Bosch, or Purolator. Though I have not seen any difference in cartridge style filters among the brands. If anything I purchased 2 purolator filters for Ecotec a few years back and they were very poorly made compared to ST.

Again I can't really comment on regular 'closed' filters.

Never used ST filters.

But, you can get P1s from AAP for $5.00. Buy 5 and use the BIG10 discount code, and choose pickup in store, and you get 5 for $3 each.

If you can get your order in within the next 30 minutes from rockauto or another site, you can take advantage of the $10 off 4 Bosch Premium filters (up to 4 filters pre rebate, two rebates per household limit).

The Purolator Classics are a better buy if you combine with AAP Coupon Code and the Purolator Classic Rebate

For less than $3 for an everyday price its a good deal. And its a good filter if you do your research first! Gotta watch out for the ones that are ecores. Ive been using SuperTech filters for the last 6 years without a problem on a lot of different cars.

Id love to know how much they cost in your area then. My Walmart only wants $2.93. Still not as cheap as the great Purolator Classic.

Find another Wally to shop at. I just bought an ST3980 last week and it was still $2.84.

I've been to Wal-Mart in Memphis, Portland, Seattle and Detroit area. All with it 2 weeks and they been the same price. If you find it for over $3 it has to be local and not a national thing.

same, all local wallys have it for 2.84 here, that 3 something has to be NJ problem.

I work the parts desk at a GM dealership. The Super techs are identical to the Ac-Delco filters, save for the black paint. (Champion labs E core design) I held a AC PF2057 (fits lots of Hondas) up to it's equivalent Super Tech. Same markings on the base plate and everything. Same with the PF 52 and 47. I use them on all the stuff I can because I can but them at Wally World cheaper than my cost for a Ac-Delco. And it's the same part.
