Only the finest MB spec'd oil will do in a Mercedes...

Or you get tired of pouring in Mobil 1 0w40 once the car you bought cheap a year ago turns out to burn a quart every 1500 miles....and you look around the oil stash and find "yea that'll do". Believe Valve guides are the issue as it still burns oil even with PCV system replaced and thicker oil hasn't slowed the rate. Oh well, runs well. It's had the balance shaft repair done by the previous owner, intake manifold replaced once and repaired again by me.

Surprised by the additive amounts here, more Calcium than I thought SuperTech had. Could this be left over Mobil 1?

Should be a good baseline, I was relieved to not see much wear.

Put in some more Mercedes approved, ahem, 15w40 for the summer.

Oh yea, and USPS took 2 months to deliver this from Maryland to Atlanta.

I have the same 06 E350 with 240K miles. Off the shelf 229.5 oils burns like water and smokes out the tail pipe in it. The more premium stuff works a lot better: Liqui Moly Leichtlauf 5w40/Molygen 5/40 with a can of LM Oil Saver. Much slower burn rate, nothing out the tailpipe. The high mileage 5w30 stuff works better than 0W40 oils from my experience. I had success with Valvoline Synthetic with Maxlife Technology, the high mileage stuff, not so much with their standard 229.5 5W40 oil which burned like water. Its the valve seals that go bad these once they got up there in years and miles. You need an oil with strong seal conditioners at every oil change going forward...

Really appreciate the advise! I don't have any of those in my oil stash, but I can add oil saver.
Hope yours keeps running well. Mines a wagon which was the big selling point. My e320 CDI gets 60 percent better mileage but no 4matic and no long roof !

Oh yea, the circuits around the country were incredible. Still hasn't been delivered according to USPS. Come to think of it, I claimed the insurance and they paid me for the postage and the oil kit.
 
Can the USPS get any slower? New ground advantage only has one good perk & that's $100 insurance. As for the Ca did you use the older M1 previously or know what API?

I also noticed fuel economy wasnt great with off the shelf 229.5 5W40 oils. It improved significantly with an application of MoS2, so I throw a can in every oil change. The MoS2 also makes cold starts a lot quiter. Compression is great on the engine, I just have bad valve stem seals.
 
Looks like the SuperTech is actually SN Plus spec, how old is that? Can't make sense of the date code.

Mobil 1 is SN, looks newer.
