Reading a BITOG thread on the challanges and concerns on shipping USPS, thought to share a neat third party service that is centered around USPS.

Mailform dot io allows one to write a letter in a word or pdf. Upload the letter on their website, and they mail the letter USPS for you. Cost under four dollars. I had a letter to send to Wyoming, I am working OCONUS, and sent the letter on a Sunday from Asia. The letter essentially goes elctronically from Asia to a US office, the office uses automation to print a hard copy of the letter, prints the envelope, stamps the envelope, all for under four dollars. I never have to buy a piece of paper, envelope, or stamp.

Pretty cool stuff. The mailform business will also send via fedex, UPS, etc. Additionally they offer certified mail with return reciept, etc.

Thanks for the tip. Never heard of this. Are you able to get a proof of delivery/signature that it was delivered?

Sounds like a great way to mail a letter to someone who doesnt have a cell phone, texting, voicemail, Facebook, email, or any other social media. Of which I know absolutely no one.

I mean, what next.... a website where you can type in your message and pay a few bucks for the company to go out back, build a bonfire, and send smoke signals to the tribe in the next valley over?

I'm saying this somewhat tongue in cheek... but seriously, how solid of a business model is it to try to make money mailing letters for people in 2025? A bit obsolete right out of the gate, arent we? I guess this might come in handy trying to communicate with someone in prison, and I do have a (former) friend in prison, but communicating with him ever again is literally not ever going to happen, but I'm not everybody so I suppose there might be a market somewhere, somehow for this kind of service.

I have used the service two in the past sixty days. Once to a governmental enterprise that required correspondance by mail or fax, and once to American Express that also required a letter to change a address.

This service also does certified mail, can that be done via cell phone, texting, voicemail, Facebook, email, or any other social media?

Your reply brings up a thought for a new thread, lines of business that appear to have no reason to still be in business, yet they are and are making a profit.

Quick question:

What was the time frame of them printing, packing, and sending your letter?
Do they choose an office location that is closer to the end destination, or is it being mailed from a central location in the US?

I'm sure this is helpful for people who are outside of the US to mail something to a US address, but I can't really see why anyone who is physically in the US would really want to use this service.

Do they do anything to confirm the sender is legitimate? Why would a bank or some place trust those letters?

In my case, I recieved confirmation that letter was sent on Monday, appears they may not physically process order during the weeked, which is when I placed the order.

I am not sure only good for oconus. You are at home Sunday morning in Dacono, type a letter, takes just a minute to process a order on their website, and in minutes you have the letter done. Printer doesn't run out of ink, no need for paper, no need for envelope, no need for stamp, no issue with unreadable handwriting on envelope, etc.

Find this service is exceptionally easier than actually doing the physical acts of sending a letter.
