Sunsong hose disappointment

I ordered this LF hose for a '98 Ram from Amazon. Perhaps it's a fake but it came in a Sunsong bag and is anyone really faking Sunsong?

The metal bracket has been crimped on backwards. If I orient it properly as shown:

...you get the hardline end at the caliper, and thus caliper connection at the frame:

I'm also unimpressed with the crimps as they're mashed and oval. In comparison the hose retention on the OEM hose is perfectly round. Sunsong bracket:

I've got a Brakebest coming from O'Reilly tomorrow. We'll see if it's any better.

I sent off an email to tech@sunsongusa

Will be curious to see if they respond at all.

Also, has anyone ever tried to report such things to whatever alphabet agency oversees such things -- presumably the DOT? I wonder if it's technically permissible for the crimps to contact/crush/compress the hose as much as they do?

I don't think so. I considered such but Brakebest uses a part number scheme similar to Raybestos/Dorman of **380541

Sunsong was 2201122

FURTHERMORE I had another incident on the rear of a '12 Ram which was 90% my stupidity but 10% I believe due to Sunsong being a different length than a Brakebest. IOW I've had one other opportunity to directly compare Brakebest and Sunsong and they were different.

It's not that relevant but that thread was here. It will also cause one to question my intelligence and competence:

Well thanks to all who replied. The Brakebest hose was actually longer than the Sunsong, but I installed it and was careful to, well....actually pay attention.

The Brakebest came with copper washers .047" thick which I elected to use. I prefer .060". Sometimes Sunsong supplies .030" which I won't use.

I only bled that corner and pedal feels great. Got lucky.

This was for my non-profit so they're not concerned-- plus I work for free so we see you LITERALLY get what you pay for. A paying customer probably would have (understandably) stopped using me.

Two morales here: 1)...

Something is not right with that hose, I suspect it is possible someone returned a dud in the Sunsong bag. Does it have Sunsong printed on the hose?

Glad you got a good one! I was researching brake hoses for a 2002 Silverado and from what I found on that application pretty much all aftermarket, to include acdelco, was reboxed sunsong. GM Genuine was available as well but I decided not to pay extra for it.

Hey, look at the positive side of the situation...returning the defective brake hose to Amazon will be a breeze! Glad that O'Reilly's came through for you.
