So with the upcoming warmer weather, I decided to get a pocket gun for my summer 3-piece suit wear. Shorts, t-shirt, flip flops. Have a Shield plus that I carry apendix when wearing sturdier shorts, or a belt. But for really thin shorts, or swim trunks, I wanted something to throw in a pocket with a Sticky holster. This thing works perfect. Super small and thin. Shot a rental about a week ago and liked everything about it. This was NOT the case with the original Bodyguard and why I've shunned away from the 2.0 until reading more positive comments about it. Will go through my typical new gun break-in (@burbguy82 style) and carry some Hornady Critical Defense 90gr. for (hopefully not) action shots. I'll do a review after slinging lead downrange.

380?

Looks ultra comfortable in the hand.
Yep. And it IS surprising easy in the hand and provides a good foundation for a proper grip. I have medium sized mitts and the undercut in the triggerguard is pretty high. This keeps a low bore axis, which along with the beavertail of the backstrap keeps the pistol put and muzzle flip to a minimum. And there is just enough grip width front to back without feeling like your fingers are wrapping around themselves. It handles big for such a tiny gun overall. I'm looking forward to see how it does for me.

Keep us posted. I was looking at one at the gun store a few months ago. I’ve been thinking about getting something to replace my OG LCP. It’s between the BG 2.0 or the LCP Max. Technology with pocket 380’s has advanced quite a bit in the last few years. I think it’s time to retire the LCP to a backup gun or deep concealment role. My only hesitation with the BG 2.0 is the guy at the counter said a lot have been coming back to the store to be sent to S&W for warranty issues. He recommended maybe giving the gun more time to mature. Plenty of good reviews with the BG 2.0 on YouTube. Hard to weed through what is an honest review and what’s a paid for review for advertising sometimes. Also some reviews are just tabletop reviews which doesn’t really help.

Today was range day with my new little pocket pal. What a sweet shooting small gun. Pictures are deceiving as this thing is really small. But all of the controls and critical dimensions are larger gun sized., making it look like it's bigger brother M&P 2.0 unless there is something known sized in the picture for reference. Grip is proportionally smaller, but still allows you to get a good handle on it without it feeling lost in your hand. Good front to rear distance is perfect for medium sized hands without any finger overwrap. And I can still get a good partial pinkie finger on the 10 round mag, full purchase with the 12 rounder loaded up. The texture is aggressive enough to give a secure feel, but not so much to irritate the skin or hang up on clothing. Frame has "gas pedals" of the same texture on the forward portion, just above where the front of the triggerguard meets. I don't use a thumb forward grip, so didn't make any difference for me. But for those looking to index their support side thumb, it's there for y'all. Fit and finish is excellent, especially for one of the first guns out of the Marysville TN shop (slide, barrel and machining is TN, frame is still from MA).

Just as with shooting the rental one, it is a flat shooter due to the undercut triggerguard and more pronounced beavertail, putting your hand high on the grip. This keeps the bore axis low and fosters a high "gun up" stance to see/keep a visual sight picture. Follow-up shots are super quick. Speaking of the sights, they are the worst feature of this gun IMHO. The front sight is ok, tritium vial, but a dark orange ring thats hard to pick up. Coupled with the huge, rounded notch of the rear, without any reference dots, it has way too much space on all sides when trying to acquire proper sight alignment. Good thing they are easy to replace, but I only used them a few times in the 250 rounds fired as this is a natural point of aim type pistol for me, and thats what I concentrated on. The target I attached is the first 50 rounds of Blazer brass case 94gr. FMJs. The main body was two handed failure drill shots (2 center mass, 1 headshot) from the appendix carried holster, each time, as fast as I could possibly shoot. Here is where time counts and point/shoot is critical. The upper corners are one handed, "double tap" shots FAIC (fast as I can) from the holster also. Left hand is left target, right hand is right target. Very fast and controllable.

Functionally, the gun ran beautiful with no misfeeds, failures, or other hangups. Even with full mags. and slingshoting the first rounds. Love the serrations by the way. For a small gun, you can really get a purchase on them. Front serrations are also full sized, making press checks very positive. 200 rounds of the Blazer and finished up with 50 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense 90gr., which will be my carry ammo. and nary a hiccup. The carry ammo did not make any significant difference in felt recoil or muzzle rise. And what a nice, out of the box trigger. Flat faced for the most part with the unobtrusive trigger safety pad against the trigger body. Solid, smooth, light, relatively short pull right up to a definitive wall at about 90°, then a crisp break with zero overtravel. Reset is equally short and tactile, although not extremely audible. Thats ok, my trigger finger is all the audible I need. Overall I really like this trigger. Not a bit of mush and very positive. The feel and action is consistent, giving you confidence in it's repeatability that it will go bang the same way every time.

I think this pistol was a very good purchase for it's intended use, and will most likely get better over time with many more shots sent. Now to strip it down and give her a good cleaning.

Target pic. @ 7yds. Please cut the old partially blind guy some slack 😁.

Thanks for the great write up. And don’t worry about the target. That looks good enough to me. Everyone always talks about how they can punch small holes from 25 yard with their XYZ gun. Don’t ever seem to find any posts with pics or vids of it though. 😉

Not me. But I can hit a 8.5x11 sheet of paper at 25 feet without really aiming about 80% of the time. I kinda have to not aim since my sights are blurry with my glasses on :)

The other 20% of the time I'm mighty close.

Nice piece. I should get me a pocket gun. All I've ever carried is a Glock 19 and it's too big and heavy for the pockets of the shorts I wear.
Maybe the pocket, but it sure feels nice with appendix or a tucked in 1600 holster (4 o' clock inside/outside WB for y'all civilian types 😁). I carry around a G23 a lot that way.

I like the Fobus OWB paddle holsters for just that. Good retention and easy on/off. Also, I recently discovered the greatness of those stretch nylon ratchet belts on Amazon. They've improved my life incrementally. So much so that I bought a pair for my kid. He carries a Shield Plus but no Fobus for him.

I carry it in an old leather Ted Blocker IWB holster. The kind you had to mail/phone order out of gun magazines before the internet.

I have 2 ancient Milt Sparks hand-boned horsehide ones for a couple of my revolvers that I ordered the same way, so I know where you're coming from. Will never get of them either.

I´m going to pick one of these up soon. I have a Ruger LCP Max that I carry 90% of the time. It has been 100% reliable and shoots ok (MUCH better than the original LCP). But I have seen a number of reviews where this thing looks downright fun to shoot. If that turns out to be true, I´ll sell the LCP Max, probably to my son, who really likes it. Win/win.

I actually looked at the LCP Max when I was deciding to get a pocket gun. Nice quality and size, just couldn't really warm up to the trigger. Too long and a bit heavy for me.
