Why? Because I look like an academic or a professor at the local community college?

My Harris tweed from Orvis (tailored in the USA) coats are my favorite. Still, it seems that my inclination was right - for a nighttime event, its not the choice.

I like the idea up above for the corderoy jacket. I saw one the other day and it looked sharp. Will have to do some more research.

... and sorry, I dont own any chains of any sort.

If you show up in tweed you'd better be sporting a meerschaum pipe

I think one can never go wrong with informal attire - wear a dark suit, white or blue shirt and a conservative tie.

Professor, if you keep skipping all apostrophes (By the way, it's also "corduroy"), you won't look all that academic.

Your obsession with haberdashery baffles me.

Finish off with nice shoes (not sneakers) and you'll be business casual. You don't need a blazer.

It's a reunion, not a formal business meeting, and the dress is business casual. I agree with GMBoy.

Oh, I do wear pleated pants with cuffs. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

OK, well I went to Macy's with my wife. We ended up getting a pair of nice black wool pants - flat front (I have rower's legs and pleated pants look funny), with a slight, I don't know... herringbone type weave. Kenneth Cole, IIRC. I got a dark blue shirt with a subtle lighter stripe. Its fitted, as my shoulders are far larger than my waist, so it looks better at the waist, instead of having a lot of fabric to tuck in. I'm a 48L coat and a 35 or so waist (good luck getting suits that fit first time).

I also got a medium tan/brown Ralph Lauren corduroy blazer, and some new black shoes. All but the shirt is good work wear, so it will all see good use (and my black shoes definitely needed replacement after a few sets of soles).

Its all good! Plus I got a decent discount from Macy's...

Thanks all!

You have a wife? Why did you come for help to a bunch of greasy trogs for fashion advice?

One of the best questions in the history of BITOG.

BTW, why is it so important to impress at a HS reunion? A lot of mental energy is being spent here. Are there any prospective employers there?

X2

Pleated pants are for working on cars. Flat fronts are for social events.
