I am NEVER going to have the issue of the rear drums on my truck being caught on the shoes and here is why. I have to pull the wheels off twice a year for seasonal tire changes. While I have the rear wheels off, in addition to lubricating the hardware inside the drums and applying a bit of antiseize to the mating faces of the drums and hubs, I use an angle grinder and grind off any ridge that might have developed on the edge of the drums.
BTW I still have the original shoes on one side (the other side got ruined by an oil leak and had to be replaced) after thirteen years of stop and go driving in a big congested city.
