Streaming to my TV

For the past few months I had wanted to build a HTPC so that I would have an HDMI output to be able to watch streaming video in high-def. But having laptops for me and my wife did not justify the additional expense so we were confined to watching Netflix through 480p resolution on WII.

Well, it turns out there are good VGA to HDMI converters[/url] boxes out there. For $45 it was a no brainer.

What is sad, though, is that there is not much legally available content out there. Hulu seems to be loaded but when you start searching, there is not much to watch. The Comedy Central has good stuff on their site in high def so we watch that and Netflix content.

I stream to my flat screen using a wifi blueray dvd player and Netflix. Works great.

What are you using the VGA to HDMI converter with? You can do HD with a VGA connection from a laptop.

The roku player should be able to do Hulu plus soon, as well as netflix.

Since you have netflix - use these two webpages to get the most out of your experience.

That shouws you all the streaming titles that c ome out for any given week. Netflix is really bad about updating the webpage with instant titles. It's been a good past couple months with them adding all the Epix content and Sci Fi content.

www.hackingnetflix.com is another good resource to get up to date information in regards to netflix and the industry in general. Lots of streaming info on there as well.

hulu plus can stream to an iphone as well.

I've heard good things about the apple TV but I haven't used it yet.

I just use a VGA connection from my old AMD desktop in 1920x1080. I had no other use for that PC so it got connected to the TV.

That is why I was asking the original poster because you don't need HDMI to get HD.

My TV doesn't have VGA input (only composite and HDMI inputs) and the only way to get HD is through HDMI.

So are you trying to connect a PC then? You only mentioned the Wii.

He is, because he wanted to get hi-def resolution. Wii only outputs 480p so that's not hi-def.

I'm using one of these to stream hi-def to my TV over an HDMI connection. I paid $99 at my local Best Buy.
