I had a lot of problems trying to post the VOA. Bob Fout has helped quite a bit in cleaning up the personal data for me and hopefully he will post a full page VOA of this oil.

Here are the results of a VOA received from Blackstone Labs for Strauss Auto Stores Full Synthetic 5w30, API-SM, GF-4.

My first VOA on a oil and I wanted to have it done on this oil since I had bought quite a few cases of it on clearance.

This oil is/was on clearance and after discount sold for about $2.20 a quart.

The first report that I received from Blackstone Labs had identified the oil as Castrol Syntec, 5w30. I placed a phone call to the Lab and mentioned that this oil was the Strauss Stores brand, Full Synthetic, most likely a repackaged Castrol product.....which it appears to be after the VOA. My primary concern was if this oil would go 7K. That question has been answered....and a lot more.

Great Oil and a Great Price.

That's not a Castrol add-pack.

Castrol uses more moly, and almost no Boron.

Sopus and Conoco-Phillips use this style of add-pack...I think it's far more likely one of them blended it.

Still, looks like a good product for the price.

Can you please post the links that show that this is not a Castrol Add Pack but instead a CP or SOPUS add pack?

You must have done some research to make that assumption on the add pack????

I would like to see the links for your post on the add pack.

Show us what you have.....

Thanks.

Thank you ADDGUY for all of your posts to make your point. I have to agree and see your point, with the supporting used oil analysis, that it sure does not look like the add pack is a Castrol Add Pack. The Boron is higher in the Strauss Full Synthetic while the Magnesium, Zinc and Phosphorous levels are lower that that reported in the used oil analysis for Castrol.

However, it still does not look like a SOPUS or a CP add pack since SOPUS would use more Moly, Zinc and Phosphorous that that reported on the used oil analysis.

What puzzles me is the first VOA that came back from Blackstone identified the oil as Castrol Syntec, 5w30? I called Blackstone and let them know that it was store brand oil that was on clearance….Strauss. The only thing that was changed from the original VOA to the Amended VOA was the name Strauss, Full synthetic.

Maybe the base oils and oil blends used in this synthetic oil are those of Castrol while the add pack is another variation of what was on hand at the time?

I was quite pleased with the VOA of this store brand oil, on clearance, for $2.22 a quart and still plan to use it for winter runs on some neighbor’s vehicles. I also plan to mix this Strauss Full Synthetic oil with Castrol Tection Super, 15w40, SM, CJ-4 for summer runs next year in some vehicles.

Thanks again Add Guy for the posts and the data. Any suggestions are appreciated.

In the end, it doesn't matter at all.

You're right, for $2.22/quart for a full syn, you're WAY ahead of the game!

You run interesting oil blends - that's cool!

XOM never uses that much Boron in their oils. None of them.

ADDGUY....You need to take a look at Mobil 1, 0W-40. XOM uses almost the same amount of Boron in it's add pack for this particular oil.
