Strange grease names.

Whats up with these? Where do the get these names?

PYROPLEX
MAXTRON
BLACK PEARL GREASE
ULTI-PLEX HV SYNTHETIC GREASE
STARFAK PM
LITHOPLEX MP
PRIMOLITH
SYNXTREME
ALBIDA
CERULEAN

And the list goes on. Weird names for sure.

It's called brand names. If everyone called their grease the same thing there would be no brand identification.
 
shell names their greases with names of shells.
cerulean is a color of blue
albida is a a color of white
anything with plex or lith is usually lithum complex base.
Black pearl is very black with a smooth texture.
starfak has something to do with the texaco star
 
Strangest I've ever seen is a tiny container that came with a shot shell reloading press. brand name is " S.T.O.S." Yep, initials for Slicker Than Owl S,,, er, better not print than one.

I remember my dad had "Monkey Grease" that he used on everything except monkeys. I tried searching for it on the internet and couldn't find it. It was probably made in the 40's or 50's. It had a picture of a monkey with a wrench in his hand. A play on Grease Monkey aka Mechanic.

AMSOIL has boring but descriptive names. Is this better?
