STP XL vs. Mobil 1 Extended Performance

I need to buy a certain oil that is only available at AZ in a 5-qt + filter combo. I am not up to date with the various aftermarket filter options. I have the choice of a STP XL for $1 or a Mobil 1 Extended Performance for $4; is the Mobil 1 filter worth the extra money?

I'd get the STP XL since it's a Premium Guard spin-off. Mobil filters are made by Mann+Hummel these days, just a Purolator in a Mobil can.

STP XL that’s PG made. Some areas still have Champ Labs made STP oil filters so you’ll have to check before purchase.

Mobil1 EP oil and oil filter are worth the money for sure.
Puralator BOSS filter is a second option

Of the two, if the XL made by Premium Guard, I'd choose it. If it's made by Champ Labs (ecore), I'd choose the M1.

The PG made XL gets my vote but not all of them are from what I read.

If you can tell us which filter part numbers we can tell you what we would recommend. If the STP is a PG, then get that.

Yep, most OEM filters are in that 50%@20 micron range just like the Boss and Wix XP.

I think the STP XL claims better efficiency (99% @ 20-25u) than the Mobil 1 Extended Performance, which is shown to be 99% @ 30u on their website.
