STP S-10590 CUT OPEN

If it didn't tear in 5K miles, it's not going to. If that filter had weak brittle media like seen in some other filters, it would be a different outcome.

Those pleats are pulling HARD on the endcaps-there would be oil bypassing the media through the gaps on the ADBV end (although it's impossible to tell after it's taken apart). Many much better filters available for the same or less money!

I don't think this example has pulled the end caps down far enough. When the filter is assembled, the leaf spring compresses down on the end and through the center tube - the center tube is the stressed column in the assembly. So those clamped areas are going to try and stay flat as the uncompressed outside circumference of the end caps bend down like seen. Once cut open, one could assemble the guts and compress the assembly some to see if there is any air gap around the center tube to verify.
