I used this S3614 on my Harley Davidson motorcycle to see how it would do. UOA came back very good, showing good filtration.

These are sold at Auto Zone for around 3 dollars. This particular S3614 would also be spec'd for my '93 Ford Escort.

Not sure how much better this filter would be than a Fram though... cardboard end pieces... pleating sort of uneven where it joins... plastic frame (maybe not so bad, but metal seems better)...

But for what it's worth, here are the photos. Comments invited. :)

You cut open a filter with a swiss army knife? Man those things are good.

Filter looks fine. Were the fiber end caps securely bonded to the filter media? No holes in the media?

FWIW, these E-Core filters produce the least amount of startup rattle in my Dad's truck.

Typical E-Core. I beg to differ on one point. The endcaps are a felt like material, and I believe contribute to the efficiency rating of the filter. Not a bad filter, maybe some "value" filters are slightly better, but there are millions of E-Cores on the road right now, doing their job just fine.

I just used the Swiss Army to cut the end caps off the media... I used a dremel to cut the can apart. :)

The media doesn't have any holes in it, and the end caps were very well secured to the media.

Why are they called "E-cores"?

Thanks,

Dan

Great concept. It's a shame that they don't offer a line with synthetic media and silicon parts. It could surely make the $5-7 price point.
