Stocking Up On Motor Oil

I ordered two 5 quart jugs of Idemitsu IFG3 0W20 off Amazon in late May. Then a 1 quart bottle of it on June 1st. By the 2nd week of June, the prices for a single 5 quart jug and a 1 quart bottle increased from $38 to 42.49 and $13.99 to $15.89 respectively. No price changes yet to the multi packs though, but I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually happens, which is why I ordered a 2 pack 1 quart bottles after the price increase. Those quart bottles are for top up oil

Our car that's left at the 2nd home out of state is getting close to the time for an oil change, so I stocked up on 4 quarts of Mobil1 ESP 0W30 soon after the war started because I had a feeling the prices will go up. No regrets doing the same thing with the Idemitsu lol

But I imported much cheaper and better JDM versions before covid, so I was good lol

With the difference that the Covid toilet paper hype was a total hoax and its price never went up where the base oil shortage is real and the price went up just a couple of months after we were warned.

Also, the motor oil prices are expected to go up again in recent future. They always practice two smaller price increases within 6 minths or so vs one single big price increase.

Partly GREED and part supply chain issues = price increase for the consumer, if you are not stocked up now, do so, while you can still get what you want.

Yesterday at local Walmart. I usually don't see VRP in stock, so maybe the price is slowing down people buying it.

What do you mean by hoax? It certainly wasn't a hoax. Demand far outstripped supply. There were definitely shortages. I know people who had a hard time finding it. Costco limited what you could buy, and they had big signs that they'd not accept any returns on toilet paper to discourage excessive hoarding. The difference I think is that there were no issues with supply, just demand went through the roof temporarily.

Costco limited what you could buy, and they had big signs that they'd not accept any returns on toilet paper to discourage excessive hoarding. The difference I think is that there were no issues with supply, just demand went through the roof temporarily.

Hoax because big chains limited to one package. And small local stores and family business groceries never had a limit and never run out of TP. I don't know anyone who run out of toilet paper. People just got hyped because were watching too much fake news on national TV. People got dumb because thought that will work form home and will run out of toilet paper. Well, post pandemic many people still work from home and we don't have shortage of TP. How's that?

How many times per day do you s**t on average and is that at home or at the office? If on regular bases you s**t once a day in the morning— that means that everyday you use your own TP even if you work all day at the office. Unless you eat like a animal and s**t 2-3 times a day at different locations. Then if you work all day at home you have to use 3 times more toilet paper.
That's how easily people got fooled in 2020 and how easily get fooled by default.

Yeah Walmart, Costco, samsclub were all out. The local grocery store that wasn't counting how many people were in the store at one time wasn't out.
Almost like free market capitalism works and fake pandemics and trial runs of communism don't.

Yeah... I remember at that time, people were lining up down the streets like it was black friday. When the doors busted open, people would rush to get meat, water and toilet paper. Good thing I had already stocked up on toilet paper pre-covid so all I needed was meat. As for water, if you already have a water filtration system you are golden.
