That angle sure does look like that. But I just saw the video on Animal Planet that caught the event from the side (profile). He tossed it in, not dropped it. I can't say if this was stupid or not since I know squat about gators.

I'll miss him and what he did for animal awareness and conservation. I wish I had an ounce of his passion. So sad.
 
Animals need their privacy, this unfortunate death illustrated this matter even more, no need to harass them for money making shows, leave them alone in their already dwindling habitats which are being taken up by useless human fodders all around the world.
 
I probably saw only about 15 minutes total of his programs. Reminded me a little of the old Wild Kingdom series I watched as a kid. But a lot more intense! I really liked the South Park episode about him.

Irwin probably did some good for wildlife & conservation, and seemed to have one heckuva good time doing it.

I know a 7-yr old named Zach is upset today- it's a sad day for little boys of all ages all over the world.

As Prime Minister John Howard said today in Parliament "he was the man most Australians aspired to be". Well not sure about that but he was good. They have the film of the attack and they say you can see him pulling the barb from his chest. His manager and best friend in tears says the film is the most horrific thing he has seen. Respect people, respect.
 
It's sad to see him go at such a young age, but he did engage in a lot of risky activities. Even so, you've got to admire his courage when dealing with the types of beasties most of us would never go near. He did a lot of good in terms of educating people about wildlife. RIP.

My son never went a day without watching his shows.
Not sure why all the stupid remarks here about him - shocking - he wasn't a perfect man?
Good lord, all the nit-picking on how he was stupid for this or that is embarrassing - he did far more good than evil and was a great role-model for kids and adults alike.
I hope his family gets through this OK.
Hopefully, they'll be spared the B-S of the sort posted here.

First of all, Korean's don't eat cats. And Dog is not openly sold in markets. There are people in Korea against eating dog. Dog is a delicassie(sp?). What age you living in? Since when was Cat edible? You Indians have alot to learn. Besides, I'm American, Not Korean.

I joked and said, Indians do Snake dancing. Isn't that harrassing the animal's privacy?
 
Time to get this back on track. A sad time for the family and friends, including the people that he touched by his programs.

The guy did a tremendous amount of good. I personally thought that he was over the top, but most Oz celebrities are in one way or another.

I "liked" him too . . . and watched mainly to see the episode where he finally got mauled. Sort of like watching NASCAR and other high risk entertainments.

I was always impressed with his body knowledge (athleticism, but seasoned by experience and knowledge of things which are work, not play) and wondered when time would catch up with him. Too soon, as he would have gotten funnier and wiser with time as that physical prowess diminished.

Still, the right way to go (versus a traffic accident, say): out in the wild, pushing a limit.
